Black Lily Honors Concert featuring performances by:
Amanda Diva Kameelah Waheed Zaki Ibrahim Emoni Fela Lizz Wright with Toshi Reagon Slick & Rose Muhsinah Bahamadia Lady Bug Mecca Jaguar Wright J*DaveY
BLACK LILY began as an artist development showcase that was established in 1999 by the critically acclaimed vocal duo the Jazzyfatnastees. The first series took place weekly at the Wetlands in New York in 1999, and later became a weekly event at The Five Spot in Philadelphia from 2000 to 2005.
Now, Black Lily is growing... The 2nd ANNUAL BLACK LILY FILM & MUSIC FESTIVAL is inspired by a recognition of the parallels between the music and film industries–both male dominated fields–in which women continue to strive for the acknowledgement and recognition often taken for granted by their male counterparts.
The BLACK LILY FILM & MUSIC FESTIVAL ("The Lily") is the only event of its kind in Philadelphia – a film and music festival wholly focused on the contributions of women, taking place May 1st through 4th at International House, the UPenn Carriage house, and World Cafe Live, featuring: - International Film/Video Screenings - Panel Discussions and Workshops - Musical Concerts with Special Guests - Honorary Awards, Parties, and more!
2008 Honorees: Bahamadia, Bernice Johnson Reagon, Jeri Lynne Johnson, Martha Diaz, Me'Shell Ndegeocello, Pearl Bowser, Stephanie Black, and Tia Lessin
