BLACK LILY began as an artist development showcase that was established in 1999 by the critically acclaimed vocal duo the Jazzyfatnastees. The first series took place weekly at the Wetlands in New York in 1999, and later became a weekly event at The Five Spot in Philadelphia from 2000 to 2005.
Now, Black Lily is growing... The 1st ANNUAL BLACK LILY FILM & MUSIC FESTIVAL, presented by uwishunu.com, is a new direction for the organization, inspired by a recognition of the parallels between the music and film industries–both male dominated fields–in which women continue to strive for the acknowledgement and recognition often taken for granted by their male counterparts.
The BLACK LILY FILM & MUSIC FESTIVAL ("The Lily") will be the first event of its kind in Philadelphia – a film and music festival wholly focused on the contributions of women, taking place May 4th through 6th at the Painted Bride Art Center and World Cafe Live, and featuring: - International Film/Video Screenings - Panel Discussions and Workshops - Musical Concerts with Special Guests - Honorary Awards, Parties, and more!
