Philly Rising is World Cafe Live's weekly Open Stage hosted by Bruce Torres at Upstairs Live every Monday. Each week, the evening's standout performer is chosen by a panel that includes Bruce, the WCL staff on duty, and a representative from sponsors Milkboy Recording and Discmakers. In addition to winning a one-hour recording session at MilkBoy Recording Studios, each week's top performer is invited back on a Sunday of the following month, when the four weekly winners have a chance to perform a full set at Cream: The Best of Philly Rising!
At each of these Cream shows, the panel of judges selects a single winner who will be awarded a 3-song EP recording session from MilkBoy Recording, plus a T-shirt, coffee mug, and $30 Gift Card from World Cafe Live.
At the end of the year, all Cream winners will compete in the Cream of the Cream showcase. That winner will receive a full production 6-song EP from MilkBoy Recording and a $100 gift card from World Cafe Live, as well as an opportunity to open for a national act on our Downstairs stage! We will also publicize the Cream awards, invite broadcast and print coverage and will solicit the participation of a media outlet as an event sponsor. Performers have the opportunity to win a complete package from Discmakers: 1,000 CDs with full-color printed jackets per winner. (2 contest winners per year).
