Kingsfoil is a Pennsylvania based rock quartet with a focus on songwriting, arrangements, and energetic live performances. Jordan Davis and Tristan Martin originally formed the group as an acoustic duo in 2002. Following the strong release of their first acoustic album "The Almond Tree EP" in 2005, Joe Cipollini was added on drums, and in 2007 Tim Warren finalized the group on bass. With this solid line-up, Kingfoil recorded the five song ep "Bear in the Attic" in 2007. As a four piece, Kingsfoil has seen extensive growth in the south central and eastern Pa. markets. The band continues to perform on a regional level, consistently adding fans and friends.
Also Performing: Rivers Monroe Mat Welch and Mike Reading met in Philadelphia as two aspiring musicians. Rivers Monroe was born when the duo decided to form a rock band with guitarist Matt "Doc" Varga, Drummer Dan Fedele, and Bassist Kirby Chin in the city of brotherly love. Rupa & the April Fishes blend an alternative pop attitude with international spices, mixing in elements of Gypsy swing, Colombian cumbia, French chanson and Indian ragas. The band hold up a carnival mirror to life and present a warped, humorous and occasionally disquieting reflection. Sequestered beneath Rupa’s infectious and captivating melodies are thought-provoking themes that address life, love, art, death and the real and artificial divisions that keep us apart. The San Francisco- based musical agitators are specialists in crossing borders and building bridges and with this new album they effortlessly blur the boundaries of genre and geography to create a sound Time Out has called "global agit-pop".

Raised in South Jersey and refined in the Middle East, Ami Yares brings his own style of earthy and grounded original music to Philadelphia. Well-crafted songwriting, tight arrangements, and a deep respect for American country, folk, bluegrass, and rock and roll create a musical throw-down that imbues listeners with a sense of something familiar, but completely new at the same time.
This homecoming performance will feature a few members of Ami's Jaffa, Israel-based band, HOLLER! (Jason Reich, Tamar Schoppik, and Eliran Kononowicz). HOLLER! and its various incarnations are a time-tested favorite of the underground folk scene of Israel and cook up some seriously energetic performances. The band has been celebrating the release of its debut album which showcases the bands musicianship and Amis songwriting.
For the last four years, HOLLER! and Ami have been throwing foot stompin' soirees all over the Israel and it's high time that Philadelphia take part in the experience.

Jef Lee Johnson is a true American original and a true American gift to the musical world. Jef Lee has played since he was a young boy growing up and playing up in the church his grandfather built in Germantown, Philadelphia, PA. He plays everything- including guitar, bass, keyboards, sax, drums and drum machines, and is a potent vocalist of broad and powerful range as well. But it's on guitar that he burns most incandescent, conjuring jawdroppingly brilliant, careening stylistic collisions of legato-laden fusion, angular outness, and state-of-the-art acid-funk. Jef's concept, while wholly and truly original, justly deserves mention alongside such profound, formidable masters as Hendrix and Holdsworth. Jef has a highly expert foot in many camps, contributing to the point of collaboration with such heavyweights as James Carter, Rachelle Ferrell and George Duke, and touring and recording with Erkyah Badu and D'Angelo. – allaboutjazz.com

Oran Etkin’s Timbalooloo, is the new home for all of Etkin’s work for children, including the music classes, CDs such as Wake Up Clarinet!, concerts, books, dvds and television programming. The name Timbalooloo comes form a 3 year-old student from Etkin’s music classes, who went home and sat his mother and baby brother down for a 20 minute music class in which he pretended to be Oran and demonstrated to his “pupils” an imaginary instrument he called the Timbalooloo. The story captures the essence of Etkin's mission: to excite children about the wonders of music and musical instruments and encourage their creative freedom and personal ingenuity.

This new album, set to release Fall 2009, is intensified with bold electric guitars, steady driving percussion, and balanced with lush string arrangements provided by members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. First Person StorySlams are a unique breed of performance art – a storytelling competition in which audience members are invited to share true stories from their lives, based on the night’s theme. Ten storytellers are chosen at random from those who sign up. Each has five minutes to impress the crowd with his/her content and storytelling style. Judges, also selected from the audience, score the performances on a ten-point scale. The highest-scoring storyteller wins a chance to compete in the annual Grand Slam, in which winners from the monthly StorySlams compete for the title of “Best Storyteller in Philadelphia.”
