Johnny Clegg
Johnny Clegg
Johnny Clegg is one of South Africa's most celebrated sons. He is a singer, songwriter, dancer, anthropologist and musical activist whose infectious crossover music, a vibrant blend of Western pop and African Zulu rhythms, has exploded onto the international scene and broken through all the barriers in his own country. In France, where he enjoys a massive following, he is fondly called Le Zulu Blanc – the white Zulu.

Johnny Clegg has sold over five million albums of his brand of crossover music worldwide – both as an individual artist and with his bands, Juluka and Savuka. He has wowed vast audiences with his audacious live shows and won a number of national and international awards for his music and for his outspoken views on apartheid, his perspectives on migrant workers in South Africa, and the general situation in the world today. Johnny Clegg's history is as bold, colourful and dashing as the rainbow country that he has called home for more than 40 years.
Jesse Clegg
Jesse Clegg is a singer-songwriter from South Africa. By the time he was six months old he was on tour with his father, and between 1988 and 1994 he spent at least 5 months a year on the road. The cover of Johnny Clegg's 1989 album, Cruel, Crazy Beautiful World, depicts a young Jesse Clegg on his father's shoulders, and the title track is addressed and dedicated to Jesse.

Early on, Jesse carved out an independent direction for himself in the rock genre, very different from the world music style developed by his father. He strove to express himself in the most authentic way possible and understood the importance of being able to perform live. He experimented with a number of different instruments - which included saxophone, clarinet, drums and piano, until he settled and focused mainly on guitar. By seventeen, songwriting was his chief musical focus and it was in this period and the years to follow that he honed his writing skills and put together the songs recorded on his first album. When I Wake Up was released in 2008 and was certified a Gold Album in South Africa. The single, "Today", debuted at Number One on the radio. His second album, Life On Mars, was released in 2011.
