Singer/songwriter Joseph Arthur was discovered by Peter Gabriel in the mid-'90s and soon signed to his Real World label. His debut, Big City Streets, was released in 1997 and practically went unnoticed. Not discouraged by industry politics, this native of Akron, OH, continued to make critically acclaimed music and Earth-inspired abstract art, winning him the recognition of artists like R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe and Coldplay's Chris Martin who have recently covered his work.

A pianist and songwriter since childhood, influenced by Billy Joel, Elton John and Ben Folds, Jon McLaughlin's passion was sidelined when both wrists were shattered in an accident. He finally rediscovered his muse at the end of high school, and concentrated on honing his skills at Anderson University School of Music. His self-titled 10-song debut album was released in 2004, on the university's record label, Orangehaus – and Jon has been touring throughout the country ever since.

Meet Crooked Still, the hot young alternative bluegrass group on a mission to bend the boundaries of traditional music. The unlikely combination of banjo, cello, and double-bass drives this low lonesome band, whose captivating vocals and high-wire solos have enraptured audiences all over the world since 2001.

According to singer-writer Dave Wilson, Chatham County Line began as a way "to hang out and drink beer." Which could account for their ability to shift between sounding tight (spirited bluegrass Clear Blue Sky) and way loose (boozy, honky tonk jam Let It Rock). Though the four-men-mike shows and acoustic instruments (guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin mainly) have seen them tagged as neo-traditionalists, their way of going about their music is far more circuitous and interesting.

The Infamous Stringdusters represent a new generation of young bluegrass musicians, pulling together skill and experience well beyond their years. They boast a combined resume that includes collaborations with artists like Dolly Parton, Leftover Salmon, Earl Scruggs, Bering Strait, Ronnie Bowman and Levon Helm. Their Sugar Hill debut, Fork In The Road, was one of the most highly acclaimed bluegrass releases of 2007, and it has been praised by fans of traditional bluegrass and newgrass alike, proving that the young, Nashville-based, band offers something for everyone.
